ATU Local 1505 Winnipeg

COVID19 Update from ATU 1505

 "Good afternoon,

We first want to thank all of our members who have been on the frontlines during a difficult period that has progressed rapidly over the last few days. Your professionalism is commendable during this strenuous time and I want to personally thank you for your continued dedication in providing a vital service for everyone in our city.

On behalf of our members, we are concerned that Winnipeg Transit has not taken precautionary steps to proactively protect our riders and members as the spread of COVID-19 has continued. We were dismayed to hear that Winnipeg Transit will not be following the lead of the Toronto Transit Commission in performing additional cleaning on transit vehicles and properties. The TTC has been using ES655H, which is a hospital-grade disinfectant on its buses on a daily basis.

Later this afternoon, members of the ATU executive will be meeting with Winnipeg Transit to bring forward these concerns. We will be calling on Winnipeg Transit to immediately begin working with ATU members to enhance bus cleaning and to introduce additional cleaning protocols regularly on all buses, with a particular focus on touch and grab points such as buttons, railings, handles, straps, and the operator's compartment on our buses.

After our meeting with Winnipeg Transit this afternoon, our executive board will meet immediately, to determine the next steps on how to continue to provide a quality public service that over 100,000 Winnipegers use on a daily basis, while also protecting our members and riders."
