To Be Clear: Transit Union Endorses Glen Murray for Mayor

PRESS RELEASE: WINNIPEG, September 9, 2022 – On September 7th, 2022 mayoral candidate, Jenny Motkaluk released her platform, “A City of Opportunity: Jenny’s Plan for Winnipeg,” containing unauthorized use of an image and quote by Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1505 – ATU seeks immediate removal.

“We sent a letter to Ms. Motkaluk respectfully seeking the immediate removal of our image and quotation from the publication.” Said Romeo Ignacio, President of ATU Local 1505.  “We were not consulted, did not know or consent to our image being used in the publication, and did not provide the statement to Ms. Motkaluk that was used.  We feel it is inappropriate to use our image and statement in these campaign materials – especially after we have publicly announced our endorsement of Mr. Murray.”

“We met with many mayoral candidates leading up to the announcement of our endorsement of Mr. Murray and received their verbal consent before posting their images on our social media.” Continued Ignacio.  “We value the dialogue that took place in all of our meetings – however, Mr. Murray’s vision for Transit falls in line with what we need right now.”

“We want to make it clear to the public that we chose to endorse Glen Murray for Mayor of Winnipeg.”

ATU hopes the request to remove their image and statement from Ms. Motkaluk’s campaign materials does not negatively impact future Transit initiatives.
