You Have the Right to Union Representation?

You have the right to have a Union Representative present during ANY meeting with your Supervisors, Managers, and/or Employers.

Even if the meeting has already started and is in progress, you can stop the meeting at ANY TIME to defer the discussion until your Union Representative is present.  Not sure how to do that?  You can state your Weingarten Rights and say the following statement word for word:

"If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated or affect my personal working conditions, I respectfully request that my Union Representative, Officer, or Steward be present at this meeting. Without representation present, I choose not to participate."

Then call up your Union Rep who will represent you in resolving the matter at hand.

Why can you do this?

Because as an employee of Winnipeg Transit you became a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1505. The Union is your sole bargaining agent for any matters pertaining to your wages, hours, working conditions, pensions, union security, and check-off, and other conditions of employment.  This information is found in ATU's Constitution and General Laws (2019) under Section 27 Representation:

The IU (International Union) and the LU (Local Union) in which a member holds membership (or where the LU in which a member holds membership is affiliated with a JBC (Joint Bargaining Council)), the JBC shall be the member’s exclusive representative for the purpose of collective bargaining as to wages, hours, working conditions, pensions, union security, and check-off, and other conditions of employment and for the negotiation and execution of contracts with employers pertaining to such matters.
