ATU Transit Workers Save Public Tax Dollars

Our transit workers repair and refurbish existing buses, which translates into substantial cost savings for the City.

The City has a bus fleet of 640 diesel buses with a lifespan of 250 KM, or 12 to 15 years.  To maintain the fleet, 50 buses must be replaced yearly. Currently, the city only purchases an average of 25 buses a year.

This means that about 300 buses a year are serviced in-house by our transit workers, which extends the lifespan of a bus for another 10 years.  This service keeps existing buses operational and saves the City from purchasing new buses.
